Dubai seizes record heroin haul
Dubai Customs inspectors have seized 47kg of heroin in what they said was the biggest drug smuggling operation ever to have been attempted through Dubai Airport.
Officials apprehended two Afghani passengers from an Afghani Airlines flight from Kandahar on Wednesday 19 September. The smugglers had attempted to camouflage heroin worth millions of dollars in bags of dried almonds, from which inspectors noticed an ‘uncommon odour.’
Dubai Customs Director General, Ahmed Butti Ahmed, praised the efforts of inspectors, saying “Dubai Customs are the watchful eyes monitoring all the ports of entries to Dubai and to safeguard the society. Their high alert prevented a real tragedy from occurring and saved the lives of thousands of families”. Source
