Get set for a pow wow with canines
Police dogs will show their skills at searching for drugs, weapons and explosives in a public display at the 20th Pedigree and Whiskas Pet Show to be held at Dubai’s Nad Al Sheba Club today (Saturday).
The Abu Dhabi and Dubai Police K9 sections which have worked in the UAE and rescue operations in Pakistan and Indonesia, will demonstrate the dogs’ expertise in tracking suspects or finding missing persons.
The show is expected to attract more than 35,000 people. It will feature many different breeds of dogs - from Pedigree purebreds to crossbreeds, mongrels to rare breeds, and Chihuahuas to Great Danes. The dogs will take part in parade and competitions.
Maya Theodory, pet care manager at Mars, the show’s sponsors, said, “The Pedigree and Whiskas Pet Show is a day for the family where all members can interact with pets and learn more about the role they play in our lives and community.
“We aim to raise the awareness on responsible pet ownership and educate people about the joys of animal companionship, all in a setting that is fun and interactive.”
Since it was first staged in 1988, the Pedigree and Whiskas Pet Show has grown to become the biggest of its kind in the Middle East.
All proceeds and donations from the day are for the benefit of K9 friends and Feline Friends, charities that provide good homes for abandoned animals, ensuring their well-being and regularly reuniting lost pets with their owners. Source
