Businessman gives Dh1.97m to free 10 prisoners
A businessman in the UAE has donated Dh1.97m for the release of 10 Muslim prisoners who were unable to pay the blood money.
Brigadier Mohammed Humaid Al Suwaidi, Director of General Department of Punitive and Corrective Establishment, has praised the businessman, who has refused to disclose his identity.
He had previously donated a huge amount that had enabled the release of a number of male prisoners.
Major Marwan Julfar, Director of Prison Guards Section explained that the current donation will be paid to enable the release of Muslim prisoners who were convicted in manslaughter cases and have stayed in prison for a long time for failure to pay the blood money.
Major Julfar said that as per the instructions of Lieutenant-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police the Humanitarian Section exerted efforts to release prisoners by contacting insurance companies to exempt and or decrease the diya amount. Source
