Couple pleads not guilty to molesting ‘adopted’ daughter

A 53-year-old Emirati A.S.,and his wife M.K., 46, have in the Court of First Instance pleaded not guilty to the charge of molesting their adopted seven-year-old daughter.

However, in the same case, the couple, along with an Emirati housewife, M.B., 30, and an unemployed Iranian, M.A., 30, have pleaded guilty to forging a document relating to their ‘adopted’ daughter.

The Public Prosecution alleged that from February 7, 2001 to July 2, 2007, all the four accused were involved in forging several other official documents, including the minor girl’s birth certificate.

The Emirati couple A.S. and M.K. had alleged that the latter was their own daughter.

M.K. admitted that more than seven years ago she met Iranian M.A. through M.B.

She alleged that since M.A. was pregnant following an “illicit relationship,” she had struck a deal with M.A. to ‘adopt’ the child for Dh15,000 if it was a girl.

“I and my husband along with the biological mother forged the birth certificate of the child at the Dubai Hospital. We handed the hospital two photocopies of our passports. My husband signed on the birth certificate stating that the child was ours. Accordingly, we managed to secure a UAE passport issued for the infant girl mentioning us as her parents.”

During investigations carried out by the Public Prosecution, witness L.S., a housewife from Seychelles, said, “I was very close to the baby girl and was shocked when she told me in June 2007 that her father A.S. was molesting her.

Dubai police Seize 495 Fake Passports During H2 of 2007

The Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department (DNRD) passport control staff members situated at the Dubai International Airport have seized about 500 fake passports during the second half of last year.
Brigadier Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director of DNRD, announced that 495 fake passports were captured due to the diligence and attention of the highly trained staff of the department from July till December 2007, and 2,611 wanted people were detained as a result of the iris-scaning technology.

Al Marri said: "We have adapted the highest technological standards in setting up the iris scans and detecting the most sophisticated fake passports techniques. Our staff members undergo extensive periodic training sessions to develop a quick analytical sense in accordance with the best global practices.

''If we consider the figures collected during the first half of the year (299 passports and 1,015 iris scan detainees), we note the excellent development in the capacities of our staff and our ability to integrate our efforts to preserve the security of the nation." "DNRD has created an integrated black-list system that makes the names and details of the wanted criminals and offenders common to all the staff at the Dubai airports, seaports and land borders", added Col. Dubai Police nabs credit card forgery gang

The criminal investigation department at the Dubai Police has arrested a three-member Turkish gang who smuggled into the country a large number of forged credit cards.

The gang was using the cards for making purchases of expensive goods from various outlets of global brands at the shopping arcades in Dubai city.

The three culprits have been remanded in preparation for further investigation. (WAM)

Two nationals acquitted in personal data case

The Dubai Criminal Court of Appeal has upheld the verdict of the lower court and acquitted UAE nationals S.S. and H.Z. of the charge of disclosing personal and confidential data pertaining to female owners of cars listed with the General Department of Traffic.

On December 9, 2007, the Criminal Court of First Instance had acquitted S.S., an employee of the Command and Control Room at the General Department of Operations, Dubai Police, of divulging personal data pertaining to female drivers to his friend H.Z.

The court had also acquitted H.Z. of the charge of instigating the disclosure.

In his statement before the court, Major M.S. of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), had stated that the CID was tipped off about a case of disclosure of personal data, including mobile phone numbers. Both S.S. and H.Z. had pleaded not guilty before the Court of First Instance.

Defence lawyer Yasser Naqabi said both courts acquitted the two accused due to lack of sufficient evidence. Source

Jailed for printing fake currency

Fujairah Misdemeanour Court has sentenced two men of African nationality to six months in jail, to be followed by deportation, on the charges of printing counterfeit currency.

Teachers’ certificates found forged

More than 60 teachers used forged experience certificates while applying for teaching jobs at the Ministry of Education (MoE) for the current academic year, it was disclosed to Khaleej Times by official sources of the Legal Affairs Department at the MoE. The sources said that the MoE had prepared a list of all these teachers to initiate action.
Of these 60 people, many were short-listed for and underwent the personal interviews. Some also succeeded in getting the jobs, the sources disclosed.
The teachers had submitted the required documents during the last summer break, and earlier.
When the MoE recently came to learn of the fake certificates, it wrote to the Ministry of Justice to take the matter to the court.
As for the method used in detecting the forged documents, Mohammad Al Fardan, head of the HR Department at the MoE, said, “The Minister of Education, Dr Hanif Hassan, had given directions to forward the credentials of all the hired staff to the embassies of the respective countries to verify the authenticity of documents.
“This was done after they had passed the interviews. Later, the MoE received a letter from the embassy of an Arab country in the UAE stating that many of the experience certificates were forged.” Source
