Price of a woman

Two men have been arrested in Dubai on suspicion of human trafficking after trying to sell two women for less than dhs5,000 each. They had then planned to force them into prostitution, according to police.
Detectives were alerted to the two Indian men who they had been told were willing to sell the two women. Officers from Dubai Police sent an undercover policeman to arrange a meeting with the men in Deira. During the meeting a price of dhs9,000 was arranged for the sale of the two women. As soon as the accused accepted the cash they were arrested, according to police. One of the men admitted he had previously sold another woman for cash. The women were identified by police as a 23-year-old Bangladeshi and a 33-year-old Indonesian. They had both been working as housemaids in the city, but had been convinced to quit their jobs with the promise of better jobs paying more money by the men.
Attorney General Essam Al-Humaidan said that police are now paying special attention to these kind of cases. “We will make a stand against human trafficking by arresting the accused and asking for the highest penalty against those involved. These type of cases affect the country’s reputation. We do not allow these kind of acts to take place here,” he said. The case has now been referred to the Court of First Instance for trial. The latest case of human trafficking is the third brought before the courts in the UAE. Two other cases were heard earlier this year. Source
